Central Ponteland scheme on schedule

A NEW RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT BY ASCENT HOMES ON THE SITE OF THE FORMER PONTELAND LIBRARY ON THORNHILL ROAD, IS MAKING GOOD PROGRESS WITH COMPLETION LOOKING TO BE RIGHT ON SCHEDULE FOR THE END OF OCTOBER.

Surgo Construction, was appointed in last October to undertake the 59-week project, beginning with the demolition of the old library and preparation of the site for development.  Construction Director, Jeff Charlton, reports that everything is going to plan.  He said:

“The foundations are in and now and we are making good progress with the block work, so it should all start to take shape swiftly thereafter.

“This is a sensitive site with a number of restrictions in terms of access and egress. The assisted living development, Henderson Court, backs on to the site and there are retail facilities opposite together with a lot of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, particularly at peak times.  As a result, we have to use smaller delivery vehicles and ensure deliveries are made between 9.30am to 2.30pm, keeping any disruption to roads and facilities to a minimum and undertaking any operations likely to create dirt or noise to times when they will cause least disturbance.

“In spite of these challenges and the recent bad weather, I am delighted to report that our first housing development for Ascent Homes is going smoothly and is on schedule.”

Hemingway Court, as the scheme is to be known, features a stunning collection of 25, one and two-bedroom apartments and penthouses built in two individual blocks over three storeys and linked at first and second floor level with a contemporary glazed bridge.

The development has been designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings and uses carefully selected materials in keeping with the form and style of nearby dwellings.  It will also benefit from carefully considered landscaped areas with the introduction of new trees fronting the Thornhill Road elevation of the site to provide high quality amenity space.

Claire Scott, Head of Sales and Marketing for Ascent Homes said, “Hemingway Court has something for everybody, with its central location and landscaped setting, both likely to be key features for would-be buyers.  It offers the ideal opportunity for those wishing to get onto the property ladder or for anyone who is looking to down size and move into a more manageable property, to benefit from light, airy and stylish accommodation, built to the highest standards in a highly sought-after location.

“We are delighted to see progress being made at Hemingway Court, which adds to the variety and type of home on offer for local people, providing this area with some much-needed entry-level housing as well as two-bedroom accommodation.  In fact, four of the one-bedroom properties will be sold at a discounted rate and these will only be available to purchasers who live in the immediate vicinity.

“In keeping with the high-quality interiors which we are well known for across all our developments, Symphony kitchens will be fitted as standard featuring stainless steel extractor hoods, sinks and mixer taps, whilst in the bathrooms, contemporary, white sanitary ware with Porcelanosa wall and flooring tiles will be used.

“We are already hearing that there has been a lot of interest from potential buyers, which is great news.”
