Enabling works start on Potland Burn
ASCENT HOMES HAS STARTED KEY SITE RESTORATION AND INVESTIGATION WORKS AT POTLAND BURN IN ASHINGTON TO PAVE THE WAY BEFORE MUCH NEEDED NEW HOUSING CAN BE BUILT.
The Northumberland based house builder is currently on site to deliver various ecological improvements, which include the creation of new fencing, hedging, tree planting and re-provisioning of the paths and bridleways, as well as providing field drainage across a large area of the land.
Following a public exhibition in 2017, Ascent Homes’ plans for part of the 900-acre site now include the construction of 99 new homes, 12 of which will be affordable bungalows to rent, together with 18 two-bedroom homes, 51 three-bedroom homes and 18 four-bedroom properties. These new figures reflect a reduction from the original plans which saw 143 houses proposed for the site. The planning application outcome for the development is due in the spring.
By reducing the number of units, Ascent Homes is able to create a development that incorporates significantly more open space and includes a large informal play space at the heart of the site. Upon completion, the ecological area will be transferred to a management company which will manage it in the future.
Speaking about the proposed development, Duncan Bowman, Development Director for Ascent Homes, said:
“The proposal for Potland Burn provides the ideal opportunity to offer different housing for the people of Ashington. It will produce a great selection of properties and will also add to the economic prosperity of the area which will support Northumberland County Council’s ambitious plans for the town centre.
We took the community’s feedback following the public exhibition and were extremely conscious about the scale and environmental impacts of the housing proposed”.
