Developer announces start on site of affordable homes

FOLLOWING UNANIMOUS PLANNING APPROVAL IN MAY 2019 BY NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY COUNCIL’S PLANNING DEPARTMENT, AWARD-WINNING HOUSE BUILDER, ASCENT HOMES HAS REVEALED PLANS TO CREATE MUCH NEEDED AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN WOOLER ANNOUNCING START ON SITE FOR INITIAL ENABLING WORKS. 

Kingsmead, Wooler is a rural development of new build homes which will be constructed on a five-acre site next to Wooler Water. The development, which is being constructed by Ascent Home’s in-house construction team, will create 72 homes, 11 of which will be affordable.  Seven will be for affordable rent and four will be available to eligible buyers at a discount market value.

To meet growth in demand for new homes in Wooler, and to support the local authority’s new homes strategy, Kingsmead will deliver a selection of two, three and four-bed properties including bungalows, semi-detached and detached houses. Following its success at designing and constructing attractive, spacious homes, the developer plans to build standard house types on the site including the Tulip, Holly and Oak all of which are styles that have proved extremely popular on earlier developments.

Due to technical constraints, initial ground works are required before construction of the individual properties can commence and these are expected to take approximately three months to complete.

 Speaking about this latest development, Ascent Homes’ development director, Duncan Bowman said:

Rural communities need good quality housing and Ascent Homes prides itself on build quality as well as creating developments that work with the needs of the local community and their immediate surroundings.  In the case of Kingsmead, we will build the affordable homes first which is encouraging for anyone in the area wishing to get on to the property ladder.”
